Day 3 - Sunbilla to Ainsa

---------------------------------

The band is back together

Slept OK but my leaking air mattress and the noise of cow bells and a roaring donkey didn't help. Last night Konrad tweaked my route to take into account our new starting position and the opportunity this gave us to do another interesting looking pass and valley roads, from single track to long sweeping roads. Shortest day of the trip today so we took it slow and stopped a lot and even had an evil McDonald's late lunch in Jaca.

Taking the old N260 route that I remember so fondly is not as easy as it used to be due to the construction of lots of new roads and motorways so you have to ignore the sat navigation and just go with your instincts. Konrad was pretty good at suggesting directions via the headset and it all worked-out brilliantly as my old sat navigation got confused and Google couldn't understand why we would want to choose slow and twisty roads.....

The mountain roads were brilliant with mostly good tarmac. We off roaded a bit and stopped by the Yesa reservoir to admire the turquoise waters and take a break. It got up to 33C so we had to drink a lot of water. It was cooler on the mountain passes but always too hot when we stopped. Wish I brought my mesh jacket!

We're camped just North of Ainsa in a national park. Lots of good hiking here but all I wanted was the cold beers we bought at the last petrol station. The campsite lady was very nice and even gave us a free bottle of local wine! They have a pool here so Leon went swimming whilst I bodged his tent (two aluminium / chinesium tent poles have shattered)... it will do for tonight but tomorrow I need to fabricate a better bodge. The campsite is next to a fast flowing river with a stunning mountain in the background.

Whilst not hungry, we are cooking tonight seeing as we have bought some reserves with us. It's some sort of festival today, lots of fireworks and activity. We have a Bluetooth speaker so are enjoying our own entertainment.

Good day in the saddle - not too far after yesterday's endurance marathon, but the heat is taking it out of us so we need to take it steady and drink lots of water. Tomorrow, we do some more great roads and go through Andorra and should camp somewhere back on the French / Spanish border.
